Advantage:There is no draining or clip to worry about. When ready, the patient simply removes the pouch, place it into a disposable bag, and discard it.
Disadvantage: This system can cause extreme damage to the skin area under the adhesive due to the frequency of removal and re-application.
People with a colostomy placed on the lower part of the bowels produce a thicker stool and mostly use a closed bag because the consistency of the stool makes emptying the bag through an open end impossible.
Recommended for colostomy (everyday use for some or special occasions for anyone), ileostomy (special occasions). Not recommended for urostomy.
